Journalism under fire: Jailed for exposing Zionist puppet of Jordan

Posted by: John Phoenix The Cradle  In Jordan, failing at self-censorship can land you in jail. Literally. Freelance journalist Hiba Abu Taha, a passionate pro-resistance Jordanian of Palestinian origin, refused to self-censor. On 11 June, the Magistrate Court in Amman sentenced her to a harsh one-year prison term for violating the kingdom’s controversial Cybercrimes Law introduced last year. This was due to an article she wrote for Lebanese news site, Annasher, criticizing “Jordan’s role in defending the enemy entity.” The article was published on 22 April, eight days after Jordanian, US, British, and French aircraft intercepted Iranian drones and rockets over Jordanian airspace heading towards Israeli targets. However, Abu Taha was arrested ...

Is Jordan really the custodian of Jerusalem’s holy sites?

Jordanians shout slogans during a protest against the closure of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Amman, Jordan on 15 July 2017 [Salah Malkawi/Anadolu Agency]. Motasem A Dalloul Israeli occupation forces detained the Director of Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Omar Al-Kiswani, as he entered the Noble Sanctuary on Tuesday. He was humiliated and searched before being allowed to enter the Islamic holy site. Last week, the Israeli occupation forces delayed Britain's Minister for the Middle East, Lord Tariq Ahmad, for more than half an hour while he was visiting Al-Aqsa Mosque. The minister was subjected to a prolonged security check at the Lions Gate (Bab Al-Asbat). The occupation state went further on Wednesday when it prevented Jordanian Ambassador to Israel Ghassan Majali from entering Al-Aqsa...

The illusion of Jordan’s custodianship

Jordanian lawmakers attend a session at the Jordanian Parliament on February 25, 2014, in Amman, Jordan [Shadi Alnsoor/Anadolu Agency/Getty Images. Since its establishment, Israel has tried to show the world that it respects freedom of worship and allows it for all. The truth is that it has, in fact, succeeded to a large extent, in portraying this impression to its friends around the world. Despite what it demolished in the year of the Nakba, it preserved some mosques and churches in the displaced villages "out of respect for the sanctities". This positive image was only disturbed by some of them later being converted into art galleries, cafes or cowsheds. After the 1967 Occupation, it raised the slogan of freedom of worship for the three religions, and then gave Jordan and othe...

A Ceasefire in Yemen After Seven Years: Are US-Backed Saudi/Emirati Aggression and War Crimes Finally Over?

by Doug Bandow  As Russia’s war against Ukraine rages, there is hope that the even deadlier war in Yemen might finally end. The warring parties have agreed to a ceasefire which, unlike previous pacts, so far has held. This is surprisingly good news, most importantly for the Yemeni people, but also for America’s international reputation. Even as Russia faced global censure for its unjustified aggression against Ukraine and brutal attack on Ukrainian cities, the US and other Western governments continued to back the deadlier Saudi and Emirati campaign against their impoverished neighbor. Despite Washington’s support for the wealthy Gulf monarchies, they were unexpectedly bested by an indigenous Yemeni insurgency led by the group Ansar Allah, also known as the Houthis. Although ...

(Photo: via Social Media) By Palestine Chronicle Staff Jordanian kickboxing coaches Mohammed Saud and Ibrahim Saraqma pulled out of the ‘Development Seminar and Coaching Workshop’, underway in Bahrain, due to the Israeli participation in the event, Al Jazeera and other Arabic-speaking media reported on Saturday.   Saraqma, the Algerian coach for ‘full contact’ and kickboxing, communicated his decision through a Facebook post.  “I declare my decision to pull out from the international tournament for trainers underway in Bahrain because of the presence of a delegation from the Zionist entity with us in the room,” he wrote in reference...

Jordanians stage mass rally in protest against water-for-energy deal with the Nazi regime

Jordanians have held a mass rally against a water-for-energy deal with the Nazi regime, saying the agreement further normalizes ties with the Nazi regime while it presses ahead with its occupation of the Palestinian territories and acts of aggression against Palestinians. Police were deployed heavily around a downtown area of the capital Amman leading to the Husseini Mosque where demonstrators marched after Friday prayers. The demonstrators chanted anti-'Israel' slogans and held banners reading, “The gas of the enemy is an occupation!” and “Down with the gas deal.” The Jordanian protesters called on the Zionist puppet regime of Jordan to scrap its peace agreement with the Nazi entity and called normalization a "humiliation". Last month, Jordan’s water minister, Nazi energy...

Fate Like a Sandstorm: Jordan and the Middle East

BY PETER BACH Photograph Source: DVIDSHUB – CC BY 2.0 Japanese writer Haruki Murakami said fate is like a small sandstorm: ‘You change direction but the sandstorm chases you. You turn again, but the storm adjusts.’ As fate would have it, these past 12 months have seen so much chasing and adjusting for Jordan and the mother of all political sandstorms has run amok. Not only an alleged coup but aggressive scrutiny over the Pandora Papers. They say particles of sand vibrate in a sandstorm. Jordan has been royally convulsing. Every week King Abdullah of Jordan is under attack in the media from some quarter or another. Last week it was Quin Hillyer in the Washington Examiner, showing particular disdain for Jordan’s imprisonment of US citizen Bassem Awadallah, at the same t...

Jordan Condemns Nazi Escalation In Al-Aqsa

Deifallah al-Fayez, the spokesperson of the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, strongly denounced the Nazi violations and escalation in the Al-Al-Aqsa Mosque, in Nazi occupied Jerusalem. Al-Fayez stated that these violations against the holy site are seriously escalating, and constitute direct breaches of International Law, and requested the Nazi to respect the sanctity of Al-Aqsa and the status quo. He added that the Nazi is obligated by International Law and all related agreements to respect the civilian population and the holy sites, and called on Tel Aviv, as the occupying power, to respect the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to end its ongoing provocations and violations. Al-Fayez also said that by allowing hundreds of Nazi JEWISH colonialist settlers, accompanied by the Nazi s...
