Just 17 years ago, when Poland and Hungary joined the EU, western imperialism was rubbing its collective hands with glee as what they perceived to be a noose, tightened around the neck of now capitalist, but still independent, Russia.  The influence of even right wing eastern European states within the EU, however, has had a wonderfully destabilising effect upon that entity with the exasperation of imperialism summed up nicely by the executive director of Defend Democracy, Alice Stollmeyer, who has said; “The EU can only be as strong as it is united, and when it’s not, others rejoice, Putin must be watching with a box of popcorn.” For the record, Alice, we’re loving the spectacle as well! By VT Belarusian authorities have said that Emil Czeczko, a Polish soldier who defected to Belarus at the height of the migrant border crisis last year, was found hanged in Minsk. Security services investigating the man’s death cannot confirm at this point whether it was suicide or murder. Czeczko crossed the Polish-Belarusian border on December 16, 2021 and, according to Belarusian authorities, sought asylum. The soldier, who had been taking part in the Polish government’s migrant containment operation, reportedly said that he was forced to flee his homeland because he was strongly opposed to the heavy-handed tactics used by Polish authorities against migrants trying to cross the border. The legislation is yet to be approved by Poland’s senate, yet Israeli officials already refer to it as the “holocaust law”. They insist that it is “immoral” and “a disgrace”. Last week Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid insisted that the bill “is a disgrace that will not erase the horrors or the memory of the holocaust”.
