Nanny, one of the leaders of Jamaica’s legendary slave resistance, features proudly on the island nation’s $500 bill. But with most of their wealth still subject to imperialist looting that leaves little but toxic waste behind, and with neighbouring Cuba to offer a stark contrast in living standards and social cohesion, many Jamaicans would find it hard to agree with the proposition that their freedom struggle has been completed.
